Signs of drug and alcohol addiction
Addictions often vary significantly from one person to another and there’s usually a pattern of both behavioural and physical symptoms that can lead to a diagnosis of drug and alcohol addiction.
You’ll notice physical symptoms early into your addiction. Examples include, but are not limited to, shakes and sweating, insomnia and feeling restless. These symptoms will be more prevalent when you haven’t taken substances.
There’ll also be a significant impact on your mental health. You’ll find that relationships with friends and family are strained, you have found yourself lying or stealing in order to fund your addiction, you are unkempt in appearance and are underperforming in work and you suffer from mood swings. It may be that these problems have been pointed out to you by someone who cares about you.
If you recognise any of these symptoms, then it’s time for you to get help. There is a long waiting list in the East Midlands area for NHS treatment and it works on an outpatient basis. When you undergo residential rehab with us, the wait is much shorter, and we’ll be able to provide you with a safe environment to proceed with your treatment programme.
How drug and alcohol rehab works
When you first get in touch with us, you will undergo an initial telephone assessment in order to evaluate your current condition. However, when you arrive at our rehab clinic, we’ll perform a full physical and psychological examination to ensure we can provide you with the appropriate course of rehab. Your honesty is important in this phase.
We understand that reaching out for help will be one of the hardest phone calls you will ever make and discussing your condition in detail will feel embarrassing to some. However, the more we know about you and the root cause of your condition, the easier it is for us to create the correct bespoke treatment programme.
The detox process
When we have established how best to treat you, you need to undergo a detox. This is an essential part of your treatment for drug or alcohol addiction. Withdrawal symptoms are an unpleasant side effect of detox. Because Rehab Clinics Group offer a residential rehab, this means our trained professional medical staff are by your side 24 hours a day to help you through this difficult time. They will provide help and support and will be able to provide prescription medication during the worst of your withdrawal symptoms.
From the first day you begin treatment in the East Midlands, you will spend as much time as is necessary with highly qualified and experienced addiction counsellors. All of our staff are supportive and genuinely care about you overcoming your struggles.
Many of our staff have overcome addiction themselves – they know exactly what is happening to you and will do everything possible to help you. We provide individual therapy and group therapy. These sessions allow you to analyse the root cause of your addiction and any triggers you have. Being part of a group session allows you to share with other people and you will learn from the experience of others. Of course, if you’re not comfortable with group sessions, every treatment programme is different and is extensively tailored to you, the individual.
The benefits of residential rehab
Residential rehab is generally attended by those who have tried other treatment programmes but have unfortunately relapsed. However, we offer rehab for all and previous treatment is not a requirement.
Staying in residential rehab allows you to take a break from the rigours of life and to take time to concentrate on your recovery. You will have time to learn new skills and take part in holistic therapies – for example, meditation. One of the biggest benefits of staying with us means you will find it much more difficult to see people or go to places who might cause you to relapse.
Secondary care
The optimal length of your stay is 28 days, but your treatment programme is just the start of your road to long-term recovery. You need to work to avoid a relapse and the first 12 months after your rehab is the time in which you are most vulnerable to returning to bad habits.
Before you leave our care, we will sit down with you and develop a secondary care (also known as “aftercare”) plan to ensure that you continue to abstain and move forward with a new, positive outlook on life. Rehab Clinics Group provide 12 months of aftercare in order to ensure you can work towards long-term recovery. We’ll provide support groups which allow you to keep in touch with fellow recovering addicts and which allows you to share your feelings and strategies with each other.
We understand that picking up the phone and making that first call is so hard – it gets easier from here. The hardest thing to do is accept you have a problem. When you get in touch with us, we can begin your recovery straight away. There is no cure for addiction and hard work will be required to overcome it, but we will work with you every step of the way.
Please call 0800 470 0382, or text HELP to 83222 any time, we’re ready to help.
